TANZANIA PHOTO SAFARI
at the heart of the Great Wildebeest Migration
MARCH 21ST TO 31ST 2019
MARCH 21ST TO 31ST 2019
This safari will take us to two of the best areas for wildlife watching and photography in the world, the southern Serengeti plains and the Ngorongoro crater, at the time when over one million Wildebeests gather here to give birth to their calves.
Here the short grass plains come to life during the wet season and the wildebeests return from the north after their search for pastures during the dry season. This grass is particularly rich in salts and minerals, providing the ideal conditions for the wildebeests to give birth. The predators of course will take advantage of this proliferation of young animals trotting across the plains next to their mothers. We will divide our time between the Ngorongoro, a 600 meters deep crater which hosts an impressive concentration of animals and predators, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area with Ndutu and the Southern Serengeti plains in the Serengeti National Park where we will have chances for iconic photographs of lions on the Kopjes and hopefully for interesting hunting images.
This safari is run in conjunction with Au Tigre Vanillé, a Swiss-based tour operator with many years' experience. The group will be guided by me with supporting guides. I will share my time equally between the two vehicles. Throughout the safari I will also share my knowledge on the wildlife and parks of Tanzania.
Perched on the top of a steep hill, the lodge is located in Bashay village (Karatu district)
Less than 10 kilometers from the entrance of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the lodge is ideally located along the Northern circuit. Close distance from Manyara NP, few minutes from the Ngorongoro Crater Gate, and only one hours drive to reach the Eyasi Lake.
The camp is located in the NCA (Ngorongoro Conservation Area Area), on the hedge of the Olduvai gorge. The Ngorongoro Crater is only 25 km away from the camp.
Unlike national parks, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area does not exclude human life. Indeed, this vast expanse of over 8 500 km², man and wildlife have been living here in harmony for hundreds of years.
Located in central Serengeti NP, near Banagi River, in a remote area quite far from other camps & lodges.
The camp lies in the heart of a nice Acacia Forest. Those trees are now protected and grow nicely to offer cover & shade to most of the tents.
This area is one of Serengeti’s richest with lots of different resident species : Elephants, Buffalos, Lions and many more constantly wander around the camp...

Tanzania offers wonderful photographic opportunities to visitors with any kind of camera equipment. However, you will benefit from having camera equipment of a certain minimum specification:
DSLRs with interchangeable lenses are the best option; the best lenses for wildlife photography are in the range of 70-500mm; add in a wide-angle if luggage space allows. The best DSLRs use modern sensors, fast auto-focus systems and have a frame rate fast enough to allow bursts of 3-5 images in a very short time. I recommend you bring kit such as:
